NSE (Neuron Specific Enolase) - Serum

Neuron Specific Enolase (NSE) is an enzyme found in neuronal & neuroendocrine tissues in your body. NSE rises in the blood whenever there is damage to neuronal tissues as seen in various cancers such as Small cell lung cancer (SCLC), Carcinoid tumor, Islet cell tumor & Neuroblastoma. This test can be used to monitor clinical progression of these tumors, decreasing level indicating tumor shrinkage & increasing level indicating recurrence.
