Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) is a component of the Complete blood count (CBC) test. It indicates the average size of the red blood cell in your body. Low MCV means that the red blood cells are smaller in size. This condition can be causd by iron deficiency, lead poisoning or thalassemia. High MCV means that the red blood cells are larger in size as seen in macrocytic anemias.
