INTRINSIC FACTOR ANTIBODY

Intrinsic factor is a protein produced by special group of cells in the lining of the stomach. It binds vitamin B12 in the food we eat & helps in its absorption. Some patients develop antibody against intrinsic factor which destroys it and results in vitamin B12 deficiency called Pernicious anemia. You can also have deficiency of intrinsic factor if you have undergone surgery for stomach removal or stomach bypass.
