Blood Lead is useful in detecting industrial, dietary and accidental exposure to lead and to monitor detoxification treatment. Lead based paint & lead contaminated dust in older buildings are the main sources of lead poisoning. Adults who work in factories making batteries, auto repair shops or do home renovations can also get exposed to lead. Lead poisoning is usually seen in children below 6 years of age which can affect mental & physical development. Symptoms of toxicity include behaviour changes, irritability, weight loss, abdominal pain, vomiting & seizures. It is recommended to test children regularly for blood lead levels.
