HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigens) are a complex of genes in a region of your DNA called major histocompatibility complex (MHC) present on chromosome 6. They are an important part of your immune system. HLA-B5 includes two subsets namely HLA-B51 & HLA-B52 of which only HLA-B51 has important disease association with Behcet's disease - a disease of blood vessels. If you are positive for HLA-B51, your risk of developing Behcet's disease increases by 6 times.
