Cystatin C

Cystatin C is a protein in your body which is an important marker of kidney function. It helps to identify kidney damage in early stage. High levels of Cystatin C indicate that the kidneys are not functioning well. It is also used to monitor treatment response in known cases of kidney damage. Cystatin C is a better test than creatinine to assess kidney damage & calculate GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) because creatinine levels do not correlate well if you are overweight, elderly or you have too much muscle mass as seen in body builders.
