LIVER KIDNEY MICROSOME 1

Presence of Liver kidney microsomal antibody in a patient is suggestive of an autoimmune process leading to liver damage. These antibodies destroy patient's own liver cells leading to Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). The disease affects children & adults with female predominance. Symptoms vary from mild abnormality in liver function to liver failure. This test only indicates presence or absence of LKM antibody in a patient.
