DUCHENNE/BECKER MUSCULAR

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an inherited disease that affects only males leading to muscle weakness & wasting. Early signs show delayed ability to sit, stand, walk or speak. It can also affect the heart muscle. DMD is due to a genetic defect which can affect different parts of the body. Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is a milder form of the same disease. This test identifies the specific defect in the gene & confirms the diagnosis.
