Amylase is an enzyme in your body produced by pancreas, liver & salivary glands. It helps in the breakdown of carbohydrates in your body. This test is used to detect high levels of Amylase in blood which is very commonly seen in patients suffering from infection of pancreas or due to stone in the duct of pancreas. It is also used to monitor chronic or long term pancreatitis.
